The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is responsible for handling and creating over 49 million driver records and 40 million vehicle records in the UK. The DVLA uses this information to make sure the right drivers and vehicles are taxed as efficiently as possible.

The DVLA have various types of information about you to carry out the many things that they do. This information includes name address, date of birth, photograph, entitlement to drive, penalty points, disqualifications, convictions and any medical information they may need.
There are over 200 health conditions that you may have that will need to be disclosed to the DVLA.
The DVLA sharded driving licence service is used when drivers are asked by employers, car hire firms or insurance companies to share their driving record. This can also be used to see what vehicles you are entitled to drive, see and penalty points or disqualifications you have. To be able to share your driving record you will have to get a code that will be valid for 21 days. To get the code you will need to give your driving licence number, national insurance number and postcode on your driving licence.

When contacting the DVLA you will need to wait for a certain amount of time for it to process depending on the application. For example, for a SORN confirmation by phone it may take up to 4 weeks, a vehicle tax refund by phone or online may take up to 6 weeks and all DVLA applications by post may take up to 6-8 weeks.
